How to Change a Cylinder lock from a door

In apartments, the manager has to change the front door keys when tenants move out or move in.
Do you know how hard it is?

Today, I'll write about how to change a cylinder lock.

To change the key, managers have to change a cylinder from a front door lock.
Let's see how to change a cylinder.

In Japan, there are many types of lock.
This time, I'll show the typical type of lock.

1. Take out a thumbturn cover

The interior piece that you operate to lock or unlock is called "thumbturn".
First, take out the cover of thumbturn.
You can use a  flathead screwdriver.

2. Take out the cylinder

After removing the cover, you can see the plate and screws.
Remove the screws with the screwdriver.
You can remove the plate and the cylinder from the door at same time.

3. Install a new cylinder

After removing the plate and the cylinder, put the new cylinder into the door hole.
You can fix the cylinder with fastening screws from the thumbturn plate.

The person who often do this job can finish this around 10 minutes.
Otherwise it takes 20 or 30 minutes or more.
Most of the managers aren't getting used to this job.

If you reduce to changing cylinders, you can concentrate more important job.
